A New Promised Land

In the last page we found that our God, Yahweh, promised Israel that they would physically become a numerous people comprised of many nations. One very important thing for a people to become many different nations is that they would need more land than what they had in Palestine.

I need to backtrack just a little to show a couple of promises made concerning the land of Palestine.

Deuteronomy 19
8 And if Yahweh your God makes your border larger, as He has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which He promised to give to your fathers;
9 if you will keep all these commandments which I command you today, to do them, to love Yahweh your God, and to walk always in His ways, then you shall add to yourself three more cities to these three,:
Joshua 23
14 And behold, today I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your heart and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass to you. Not one thing of it has failed.
15 And it shall be, as comes to you every good thing which Yahweh your God has spoken to you has come to you, so shall Yahweh bring on you every evil thing until He has destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you,
16 when you transgress the covenant of Yahweh your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them, then shall the anger of Yahweh be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which He has given to you.

These verses show that Yahweh conditionally promised Israel the land of Palestine. When Israel no longer obeyed his law then he would remove them from the land. Yahweh did this eventually with the Assyrian and the Babylonian captivities. A small remnant was allowed to temporarily return to Palestine from the Babylonian captivity. However most all Israel moved away from Palestine by the time of the destruction of 70 A.D.

One other note needs to be made before going on. Our God gave Israel all that he promised to give to Israel. As can be seen in Joshua 23 above and in the following.

Joshua 21:43
And Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which He swore to give to their fathers. And they possessed it, and lived in it.

There are people today who say that Yahweh failed on that promise and so in 1948 he began to try to finish that promise.

Now for the point of this page. During the time of King David, Nathan, the prophet came before David and told him of a new promise concerning land by Yahweh. This promise was unconditional. This promise would not depend on Israel's behavior. In fact Yahweh used Israel's bad behavior to fulfill this promise. Here are the promises.

2 Samuel 7
10 And I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more. Neither shall the sons of wickedness afflict them any more, as before.,

and

1 Chronicles 17
9 And I will set a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall live in their place and shall be moved no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

So here is a clue. If you want to find Israel today you should look for them in another land other than Palestine. Yahweh, God, moved the descendants of Israel to another land. Since the promise was for a "multitude of nations" then we should look for them in a multitude of lands.

In the next page we will start working on how it came about that Yahweh moved the great majority of his people, his "special treasure" out of the land of Palestine. (Special or peculiar treasure is found in Exodus 19:5 and Psalms 135:4) and refers to Israel.

Notes
1 "The LORD" has been replaced with the original text YHVH, our God's name. Yahweh or Yahveh are probable ways to write out our God's name. All quotes from the MKJV.
